What is TEF ?

TEF or Test d’Évaluation de Français is an international examination that measures your knowledge and skills of French language. The result of this exam is valid for 2 years. It consists of 5 modules, namely, compréhension orale, compréhension écrite, expression orale, expression écrite and lexique et syntax. There are types of TEF exams and you must take the exam depending upon your final objective. You can take the TEF to certify your level of French. It is also recognized to : Integrate a school / university, obtain the French or Swiss nationality with the TEF Intégration, Résidence et Nationality, Obtain the French Resident Card with the TEF Intégration, Résidence et Nationality, Immigrate to Canada and obtain Canadian citizenship with the TEF Canada, Immigrate to Quebec with the TEF Québec (TEFAQ)

What is TCF ?

The Test de connaissance du français (TCF) is a language placement test for non-native speakers of French. It is administered by the Centre international d’études pédagogiques (CIEP). It fulfils French language entry requirements, can be used to demonstrate language ability for job applications or for personal use, and is used for immigration procedures. The TCF follows the European standards for language tests as set forward in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and is equal to DELF?DALF exams offered by the CIEP. Lowest level is A1 indicating beginner, top fluency levels are C1 and C2.

The test comprises compulsory and optional sections. The reading, listening and language structures sections are mandatory while the writing and speaking sections are optional. The listening comprehension and the reading comprehension sections are similar to that of DELF and DALF just that the quantity of questions and the duration allotted to each section is different. For the spoken expression part, there is a one-to-one interview with an examiner, which lasts for approximately 15 minutes. Preparation is not required for this examination. The candidate is assessed on their ability to communicate and react to the cues given by the examiner. This examination includes six exercises that get progressively more difficult. Candidates have 1 hour 45 minutes to complete this part of the examination.
